Girls are Gone, but Cathy Came to Town

This is a big summer for our family, with lots of changes. Kamiko and Bekki got back to Utah. Allie got a job teaching in Indianapolis and already moved there. Melia is nannying in the Hamptons.

Kamiko and Bekki are living in the Brau's basement for now. It's plenty roomy for them. Kamiko landed his dream job as a producer for a company that makes commercials for viral use on facebook, instagram, twitter, etc. He's so excited about it. He's only been on the job a few days and he got injured today. He was playing basketball with some work buddies and he tore his achilles tendon. He goes on Monday for an MRI and meeting with an orthopedist. Poor guy. I feel really bad for him.

Allie is the 8th full time FCS teacher at Pike High School in Indianapolis. It's an IB school. Most kids graduate with college credit and it's a very diverse population, with about 60% of the student body being black. She will be teaching a year long course called nutrition and wellness. That is all she'll be teaching. I'm very excited for her.

Mel has been in the Hamptons for a couple of weeks. She's adjusting. The family seems really nice. She watches 2 boys when they are not at day camp. She will also be interning at the dad's architectural firm, working with the interior designer. What a great experience she'll have. She is currently in Brooklyn, staying with my high school friend Liz Kenney. Mel is in her element in Brooklyn. She says she's more of a Brooklyn girl than a Hamptons girl. She's going into Manhattan tomorrow and meets up with some friends from Provo at Coney Island tomorrow night. NYC just re-opened from the pandemic. I'm so grateful that Liz is hosting her. Mel FaceTimed me and told me how nice Liz and her husband, Jeff, are. We stayed with them then house sat for them years ago when we took the girls to NYC. I'm glad Mel can appreciate how kind and wonderful they are now that she's an adult.

Finally, Cathy Voorhees was in town last week. She and Bill got in on Monday and I had them and Starlyn and Lee Hjorth over for dinner. We had a great time. Before Cathy and Bill left, we were trying to figure out if we would be able to go to a movie together. We loved going to the movies when she lived here. She and Starlyn and I would go. Starlyn left town, but Cathy and I were able to see "In the Heights." Bill knew she and I both really wanted to see it. It wasn't released in theaters until Thursday, so they delayed their trip to Elko until Friday. So, to celebrate the end of the term and to celebrate friendship, we saw the movie on Thursday night. We had a great time and we really enjoyed the movie too. Cathy has been a great friend for years. It was a treat to spend time with her twice.

A bit fuzzy, but still a good picture of 2 good friends. Love this lady.
