Below is the text of the Christmas letter we sent out. It included the picture of us on the boat in Hannibal, Missouri, and a small picture of Honu:
In June, we
enjoyed a trip to Nauvoo, Illinois, to see LDS church history sites. We flew
into St. Louis, Missouri, and spent some time there, including a ride to the
top of the Gateway Arch. On the way to Nauvoo, we stopped in Hannibal where we
walked around and enjoyed a dinner cruise on the Mississippi River. We spent
three days in Nauvoo and surrounding areas, soaking in the beauty of what early
church members created and their great sacrifice it took to do so.
We had a Hunter Family
reunion at Wolf Creek, near Ogden, Utah. Many siblings, spouses and cousins
were able to make it. Highlight: an evening listening to Uncle Derek tell
stories of his youth and eating poutine (French fries, gravy and cheese) prepared
by our new Canadian cousin-in-law, James DeVuyst.
Melia (14) continues to play soccer and loves it. She
does well in school, completing homework without any nagging from mom or dad. She
enjoys being one of the editors on the junior high yearbook staff. Every
weekend, Melia and her friends seem to be busy with a get-together at someone’s
house. Melia earned money this summer teaching a weeklong cooking class at our
house to young neighborhood girls. Mel still takes care of her cat, Honu. She
got him last year from people giving away cats at the Walmart parking lot. He’s
cute and we love him!
Allie (16) began the year
celebrating her birthday with a big group of friends and getting her driver’s
license. She landed a job at Hapari, a swimsuit store in town (online @ www.hapari.com).
She loves it and is a diligent worker. Allie is one of the school’s yearbook
editors and is a Photoshop pro! She and Melia enjoy shopping and hanging out,
especially since Allie can drive them places. Allie and her friend Kiana enjoyed
Black Friday shopping from 10 pm to 6 am. Dana likes that Allie will run
errands for her and take Melia to and from her many social engagements.
Kamiko (19) continues his studies
at BYU and has decided to major in business. He recently left the Little Caesar’s job that
he’s had since high school and now works for the same company as Allie. He fills orders and organizes stock in the
Hapari warehouse. He is relieved NOT to work evenings and Saturdays anymore. Kamiko
keeps up his soccer, playing on both indoor and BYU intramural teams. He
teaches the 8-year old boys in church and they love him.
Dana loves teaching foods in BYU’s
School of Family Life. She ran a marathon this summer, just to prove to herself
that she could do it. She also helped out as a cook at our church camp for the
young women. She and other women cooked and prepped food for about 450 people
from 6:00 am until 11:00 pm for three days. She had a blast and made new
friends. This fall, Dana got to see her favorite movie, “To Kill a Mockingbird,”
on the big screen. She also got to go to
Disneyland with some of her siblings.
Keenan still works for BYU
Independent Study. He recently finished a “Lazy Man Iron Man” and has the
t-shirt to prove it! It’s all the events of an Iron Man Triathlon with a twist—you
take a month to complete it. He accompanied Allie to Hawaii this summer. She
had saved money to attend Especially for Youth at BYU-Hawaii and Keenan decided
she needed a chaperone. They had a great time visiting family, eating ono (delicious)
food, going to the Polynesian Cultural Center, Pearl Harbor, Swap Meet, and
Matsumoto’s Shave Ice, and eating more ono food. In November, Keenan attended a
conference in Washington, DC. Highlights included visiting Ford’s Theater,
Holocaust Museum, Washington DC LDS temple, and Capitol Building.
We send our love and our hopes that you have a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year!
