Our "Pinterest" House

My Thanksgiving Decor by the front door on a chest of drawers given to me by my grandpa Sears. I like to change the display with the holidays. It's become a bit of a focal point and I love it.
There is a website that a lot of my BYU students look at and Allie has recently discovered it. It's Pinterest. On this site, people post pictures and instructions for just about everything crafty, from home decor to crafts to hairstyles to fashion to recipes. Allie told me we have a Pinterest house. I think that's a compliment. I think it means we have fun stuff around the house. As I walk around my home, it's not decorated with just "stuff," but with items that have meaning. We have photos of the attack on Pearl Harbor, during which, Keenan's grandfather was killed. We have a large framed map of Sweden, where my parents have served missions and we have visited and a fair number of photos of family and friends. Here are some recent projects:

Uncle Mike Sears hung this rod to hang stuff in Melia's bathroom. It's a tiny bathroom, with hardly any storage space.

Recently moved this hutch from a bedroom that no one uses to the kitchen, where I desperately needed extra storage space. Also made new chair back covers for the kitchen chairs. Notice the apron hanging on the wall. Because of my work, I have lots of aprons. I think I have more than 20. The hook will allow me to display them when not wearing them.

The display in front room for January...Snow!

and for February. Blog eighteen25 was where I printed artwork to frame. Fun, huh?

My Family

This is me and Keenan on Dec. 23, 2011. We were married 20 years ago on October 12, 1991, in the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Keenan works at BYU Independent Study. He is over all of their High School courses. He likes to lift weights, swim, and generally work-out so he can eat. He really likes to eat. He is really good on computers and uses that skill to bring in extra money as he teaches webinars. He also teaches a Dutch language course at BYU. He served an LDS mission to the Netherlands. One of the things I like most about him is that he doesn't lose his temper often and he works hard at being a good husband and dad.

This is Darren Kamiko Hookano Adcock. We call him Kamiko. He was named after Keenan's high school friend, Darren, and Keenan's grandfather, Kamiko Hookano. He is 18 years old and studies at BYU. He lives in Heritage Halls - the new dorms. This is a picture of him with a special Christmas present from Grandma and Grandpa Hunter - a tiny brown missionary. Kamiko is preparing for a mission. He'll turn 19 in August. He likes to dance and to play soccer. He is juggling social life, school, church, etc. on his own and doing a good job of it. One thing I really appreciate about Kamiko is his enthusiasm for having fun. It is good to have him home for Christmas break. He's working at Little Caesar's Pizza during the break. He worked there through high school

These pictures are of Allie Ilikea Adcock, our middle kid. She's 15, almost 16. She was named after my grandma, Allie Decker Hunter. Grandma was a very accomplished homemaker and was a gracious lady. On the left is our Allie in a dress that my sister wore as a bridesmaid at our wedding. Allie hemmed it and put a sweater over it to turn it into a cute outfit. On the right is Allie wearing a vest I got in high school, probably in about 1982 or 1983, at Contempo Casuals at Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton, CA. She can sew, cook, do laundry, make any craft she wants, and dance hula. I like that Allie works hard to make good choices. She is really trying hard to live the gospel.

This is a picture of Melia Ann Adcock, practicing her ukulele. She is 13. Will be 14 in May. Melia's name came from a lady that I worked out with at Gold's Gym in Richardson, TX, when I was pregnant with Melia. This woman was polynesian and had two daughters. We were looking for a girl name and I asked her what her daughters' names were. Melia was one of them and we really liked it. Her middle name is Ann, just like my mom's and many of her girl cousins'. Mel loves to play soccer and hangs out with her soccer teammates in the off season. She works hard in school and is a lot of fun to be around. She likes interior design and really transformed Kamiko's bedroom when he moved out to go to college. She is our animal lover. What I appreciate about Melia is her desire to be a peacemaker. She tries really hard to encourage us to be kind and forgiving. I need to listen to her more.

And this is my only blonde child, Honu Henry Jackson Adcock. He was born the first part of July and came to our family in the end of August. He's a feisty toddler right now. He bites a lot. When he is sweet, he is really sweet. We are getting the hang of having a pet. He's really fun to have around. I understand that when he's about a year old, he will be pretty much an adult and will laze around all day.

I Am Starting a Blog

Starlyn and son Houston, me and Cameron Call, another great TA at Savior of the World in Salt Lake City

I'm Dana, I teach cooking at BYU and I confess to my students that I am a lazy cook. If it's easy and tastes good, I'll make it. If it's difficult and tastes good, I have my students make it. I even have a dinner group. I only cook dinner twice a week - once on Sunday and a triple batch of a meal on Thursday to share with my dinner group families. It's Christmas 2011 and I decided to learn to use a digital camera, post pictures and do a blog so I don't have to scrapbook ANYMORE. I'm lazy about that, too. The purpose of this is to basically keep a journal for me and my family. I am not a 30-something who likes Pinterest and I don't intend to be clever like other blogs. I'm just gonna do this for me and my family. By the way, I think Americans are fat because of Pinterest, Our Best Bites, Foodgawker, the Food Network, etc. Just look. You don't have to make it and eat it all.
